Volunteering With Homeward
Homeward is currently seeking a volunteer to assist our team with start-up and co-facilitation of an Adult Action Council, an advisory council of adults (25+) who advocate and inform the homelessness system and the general community to reduce stigma, educate key stakeholders and community members, and assist those who are experiencing homelessness.
The Adult Action Council meets in-person for an hour two evenings/month and may have additional planning meetings as they identify their annual goals.
Individuals who are interested in this volunteer opportunity should contact Amy Croll. Individuals who have expertise in the areas noted below are particularly encouraged to volunteer.
-
Cultivating Voice
-
Lived Experience
-
Communications/Marketing
The Adult Action Council is new, however, it is anticipated it may be similar to the Youth Action Council. More information about the Youth Action Council can be found here.
Not sure you are ready to volunteer regularly? Consider sharing your skills with participants. Typical educational requests include topics related to cooking, cleaning, finances, apartment skills 101, medical care, and legal rights and responsibilities.
On the last Wednesday in January and July of every year, Homeward and its volunteers partner with community outreach staff to conduct a Point-In-Time (PIT) Count of the number of people experiencing homelessness in our community on a given night. Volunteers hand out donated supply kits in exchange for basic count information. Contact Angie Arthur at aarthur@homewardiowa.org if you're interested in being part of the next PIT Count!
The next PIT count will be held July 30-31, 2025.
**Volunteer for a four hour shift during the PIT count
