Volunteering With Homeward
On the last Wednesday in January and July of every year, Homeward and its volunteers partner with community outreach staff to conduct a Point-In-Time (PIT) Count of the number of people experiencing homelessness in our community on a given night (24 hour period). Communities are required to conduct a PIT Count once a year to be eligible for federal funding. In Iowa, we do organize PIT Counts twice a year: in January and July. Volunteers hand out donated supply kits and small gift cards in exchange for basic count information.
Upcoming PIT count = July 29-30, 2026
Volunteer for a four hour shift during the 24 hour PIT count! Training is required for anyone participating in PIT count operations. Training will occur at 8:15am or at 4:15pm on July 22nd at the Primary Health Care administrative offices.
***If you have a group that would like to assemble supply kits, please use this supply list.
