Volunteering With Homeward
Homeward is currently seeking a volunteer to co-facilitate our lived experience groups. The Youth Action Council is comprised of individuals 14-24 who have experience of homelessness and the United Action Council is an advisory council of adults (25+) who advocate and inform the homelessness system.
Each group meets in-person for an hour two evenings/month and may have additional planning meetings as they identify their annual goals.
Individuals who are interested in this volunteer opportunity should contact Homeward. Individuals who have expertise in the areas noted below are particularly encouraged to volunteer.

Not sure you are ready to volunteer regularly? Consider sharing your skills with participants. Typical educational requests include topics related to cooking, cleaning, finances, apartment skills 101, medical care, and legal rights and responsibilities.
On the last Wednesday in January and July of every year, Homeward and its volunteers partner with community outreach staff to conduct a Point-In-Time (PIT) Count of the number of people experiencing homelessness in our community on a given night. Volunteers hand out donated supply kits in exchange for basic count information. Contact Angie Arthur at aarthur@homewardiowa.org if you're interested in being part of the next PIT Count!
The next PIT count will be held July 29-30, 2026.
**Volunteer for a four hour shift during the PIT count
