Overnight Cooling Centers Activated Sat/Sun

Polk County Emergency Management, in consultation with Polk County Community, Family and Youth Services and Polk County Behavioral Health and Disability Services, announces the opening of an overnight cooling center at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave.,  Des Moines, Iowa  50310 on Saturday June 21, 2025 and Sunday June 22, 2025.  Hours of operation are 5:00pm to 7:30am.   

 

The opening of this cooling center is in response to projected high temperatures over the weekend which will meet pre-determined triggers, including high overnight temperatures when other cooling centers are closed.

No amenities are offered beyond seating in the atrium, use of the restrooms and water fountains, and on-site staffing to monitor the space.  Pets are not allowed and participants are not permitted to bring large amounts of personal items inside.  DART offers free rides to cooling centers during extreme temperature events.
